Sleep Center
Sleep. . .most people take it for granted. Normal sleep helps to restore mental and physical energy. It is a natural part of daily living. However, almost one in four people in America, and as many as one in two people over age 65, suffer from sleep disorders to some degree.
Although many people experience occasional trouble sleeping, if the problem is severe or persistent, it may require medical attention. Fortunately, our Sleep Center can help you get back on the road to a good night’s sleep. The MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital Sleep Center provides comprehensive assessment for adults and children with sleep disorders. Our Sleep Center is an accredited facility that is run by certified staff members with many years of experience. We are also a proud member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine [AASM].

Treatment at the Sleep Center
Our facility offers privacy and comfort similar to a normal bedroom. Patients are encouraged to bring comfortable sleeping attire and their own pillow, if desired. Once the patient is settled in the sleep room, a sleep technician attaches electrodes to the scalp, face and limbs using a biological adhesive. The technician also attaches other monitoring devices to measure and record breathing and body movement during sleep.
Sleep Center patients are referred by their primary care physician or a specialist. After the referral, a member of the Sleep Center will call to schedule an appointment. Trained sleep technicians are available to answer any clinical questions. When you arrive for your sleep study, a technician will meet you and escort you to our center. Throughout the testing, a trained sleep technician will continuously monitor the recordings.
