Heart Treatments

Advanced diagnostic technologies, such as cardiac catheterization, stress testing, EKGs, echocardiography and cardiovascular imaging, provide our physicians with the necessary tools to confirm an accurate diagnosis.

MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital opened a new catheterization lab in April 2008, complete with new imaging equipment and a layout that enhances patient flow and supports safe, quality and patient-centered care. A brand new image management and storage system for cardiology also was installed. New technology provides easy access for physicians by integrating patient information and images, and the efficiency of the system allows staff to spend more time with patients. In addition, the equipment delivers a significantly reduced radiation dose for patients, and state-of-the-art image clarity.

Our cardiologists and vascular specialists treat all forms of cardiovascular disease. When cardiac surgery or angioplasty is necessary, patients are referred to our affiliate, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. The MedStar Union Memorial Heart Institute is recognized for outstanding clinical performance and providing the latest in minimally invasive and "off-pump" procedures.

For patients who have experienced a major heart attack, we offer a three-tiered program. This includes a Cardiac Rehabilitation inpatient (Phase I) program, a continuation with our Cardiac Fitness and Prevention (Phase II) program and a Cardiac Home Plan (Phase III). In addition, a Congestive Heart Failure program and specialized Chest Pain Unit are available. Plus, trained cardiac nurses are available to visit heart-disease patients in the comfort of home through our MedStar Visiting Nurses Association.
