More than 65 million Americans will have the unfortunate experience of back pain at some time in their lives. But at The Spine Center at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, our philosophy is that no one should have to live with it.

Listen to Dr. Robert Peroutka talk about how to know when it's time to call your doctor about back pain:

The Spine Center Approach

We incorporate a unique team approach at The Spine Center where you are cared for not by one physician, but rather our group of experts including pain management and physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, interventional radiologists, physiatrists, neurologists, rheumatologists, spine surgeons, neurosurgeons, specialized pharmacists as well as certified physical and occupational therapists. This approach ensures that you get the best possible combination of treatment options based on your specific type of back pain diagnosis, including your examination findings, lifestyle, occupation and recreational interests. To make your care as effective and convenient as possible, you will communicate with a care coordinator who works directly with each of the specialists to coordinate the details of your treatment so that you can focus on just getting healthy.

Our approach is not only comprehensive in treatment, but in scope as well. Prior to treatment, you receive pre-conditioning education to make your experience as pain free as possible. Following treatment, you receive instructions on recommended exercise and proper body mechanics, and in some cases group therapy sessions, to keep you healthy and active down the road.

Our Experts

Our spine experts who develop your plan of care come from a wide variety of specialities to ensure that whatever type of care you need, you receive. Our experts are highly-trained in the most advanced medical techniques from the most common minimally invasive procedures to complex spine reconstructive surgery. These specialists have trained and remain affiliated with the most reputable orthopaedic centers in the world including the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
