Purpose: The Medical Residency Society (MRS) was established in the spring of 1999 with the support of the program director. The main objective of MRS is to foster a unique “oneness,” not only among the residents, but also with attending physicians and other staff. The residency training experience is not simply an educational challenge, but a personal journey that is undertaken and enjoyed with supportive colleagues
Function/Role: Foster team spirit, collegiality, interpersonal relationships, recreation and cooperation. We hope, ultimately, to lay the foundation for lifelong friendships and camaraderie. Examples of some events organized include: annual holiday party, fall retreat, trip to the National Aquarium, hiking in Shenandoah mountains, kayaking, birthday celebrations and others.
Future Plans: Continue to organize extracurricular activities/outings that serve to nurture a positive training environment–one that promotes sharing of like experiences, interdependency, and teamwork.
