BALTIMORE—(July 1, 2015)—MedStar Good Samaritan and MedStar Union Memorial Hospitals are expanding their strategy to unify efficiency and excellence by sharing administrative and physician leadership, and integrating under the direction of a single president. With the transition underway, Bradley S. Chambers, president of MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, will officially assume the dual role over both hospitals July 1st.
Jeffrey A. Matton, president of MedStar Good Samaritan since 2010, has moved into a senior leadership role overseeing a system-wide performance initiative.
“In the last few years it’s become increasingly clear that our best competitive advantage in the changing healthcare industry, is to unify the two hospitals,” Mr. Chambers explained. “The hospital campuses are three miles apart. The shared geography, community access, clinical excellence, operational efficiency, population health management- all put us in a position for better organizational readiness and a structure for the future.”
As the integration of campuses continues, each hospital will retain its own board of directors, its own medical staff and core community services, and MGSH will maintain its Catholic identity. Under one president, the new model will provide the structure needed to drive efficiencies further, identify additional integrated services and care delivery opportunities and respond to revenue strategies.
