The Nurse Extern Program, working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, invites senior nursing students from accredited nursing programs to assist in the care of patients. Working part-time, the Nurse Extern will observe and blend what is being taught in the classroom with the acute care setting. Nurse Extern candidates must have successfully completed one year of a Clinical Nursing Program including Fundamentals of Nursing and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. The Nurse Extern Program allows students to explore all the employment opportunities at MedStar Good Samaritan.
Nurse Extern Comments
"I had a clinical rotation at Good Samaritan Hospital while I was in school. I will be taking the Kaplan review course soon and getting ready for boards. Working as a Nurse extern on 5 East has only confirmed my initial perception; it is a great place to work."
- Anthony, 5 East
"My experience as a Nurse Extern has been a wonderful learning experience. It has helped me in school and my performance in clinicals. I have gained confidence and have learned things that cannot be taught in a classroom. My knowledge has increased ten fold. I would recommend this experience to anyone.
- Jessica, ICU/CCU
"I have been a Nurse Extern for six months. This experience has been very educational, informative and has given me a real heads up for the real thing. It has allowed me to sharpen the skills that I have learned in school. It has been a wonderful experience and I have had a great preceptor."
