Our staff chaplains are available to patients and family members of all faiths and denominations for prayer, counseling and support.

  • Chaplains are available daily, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. On Saturdays and holidays, chaplains can be reached between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. They are on call after hours for emergencies.
  • Chaplains provide spiritual support to members of all faiths, and will help arrange a visit from your local clergy upon request.
  • For prayer and private meditation The Hospital Chapel and the Frank and Etta Barrish Jewish Prayer and Meditation Room (both located on the first floor of the hospital) are open 24 hours daily.
  • Roman Catholic Mass is celebrated Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m. (fulfills Sunday obligation). A Protestant Service is offered at Sundays at 8 a.m. Patients need not dress in street clothes to attend services or visit the prayer room. The Chapel is accessible by wheelchair.
  • Holy Communion and the sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick are available upon request.
  • For Jewish patients, Sabbath candles, kosher meals, and other services are available upon request.
  • MedStar Good Samaritan Chapel is reserved on Fridays at 12:30 p.m. for Islamic (Juma'a) prayers. All are welcome.

Religious Television Programs

  • Religious Programming is telecast around the clock to patient rooms on Channel 12, the Inspirational Channel. Programming includes live broadcast of Mass and other services originating from the hospital chapel and more than a thousand hours of quiet music and images for prayer and meditation.
  • EWTN, a Catholic television network, can be viewed on channel 21 on patient televisions. EWTN is broadcast 24 hours a days and features Mass four times daily and various other Catholic prayers services and devotions.
