Power to Heal Campaign

annual philanthropy campaign

MedStar Health's Giving: The Power to Heal Campaign invites associates and physicians to invest through philanthropy and support patient experience initiatives across the system.

A Focus on Patient Experience

Our focus this year is to support, enhance, and sustain a variety of patient experience initiatives across MedStar Health.

In collaboration with leadership and the Power to Heal Campaign Committee, specific initiatives have been developed to enhance the experience of our patients and their families. Commitments to MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital will support the purchase of equipment and other items needed for the new Inpatient Rehabilitation Center. These funds will help furnish and equip the “Easy Street” simulation area that will assist patients with everyday mobility rehabilitation.

Gratitude has the Power to Heal

We will celebrate our growing culture of gratitude by creating awareness about philanthropy and how it can impact our patients and their families. Expressions of gratitude have been shown to increase positivity and happiness, deepening our relationships with one another.

In March 2016, Robert Holt was having trouble remembering his day to day tasks and became increasingly  confused.  After admitted for treatment at three area hospitals within two months, he was finally referred for admission into a nursing home. His family did not agree.  Remembering a previous referral from Mr. Holt’s primary care physician to seek care at the Center for Successful Aging at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, his family made him an appointment.  It was here where Mr. Holt ultimately received a diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia.

His daughter, Robin Holt, sought the help of certified professional geriatric care provider, George Hennawi, MD, CMD, FACP. “Dr. Hennawi is more than our provider, he is our advocate, and he gave my family our father back,” said Robin Holt. Prior to meeting with Dr. Hennawi, Robert Holt’s debilitating condition rendered him entirely dependent upon assisted living. Within a year, Mr. Holt was able to move back into his home and is living entirely on his own again, leading a very active life. Robin is grateful for the positive change in her father and feels that the care he received after seeing Dr. Hennawi gave him a second chance at a fulfilling life.

Once a commitment is made, you will receive an email with the Gifts of Gratitude eCard where you can express your gratitude to your honoree with a personal note.
