Foundation Leadership

Through the generosity of Baltimore businessman and philanthropist Thomas J. O'Neill, the MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital was created in 1968. Since then, the hospital has carefully preserved the O'Neill endowment and expanded on his vision. Through the income stream the endowment provides, the hospital has:

  • Built new facilities
  • Established a reputation for expertise and personal care in pulmonary medicine, renal dialysis, orthopedics, rehabilitation, rheumatology, and a wide range of medical specialties
  • Become a stabilizing anchor for the northeast Baltimore community

Now, MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital has completed its first development campaign, Celebrating Our Legacy, created to continue its successful stewardship of the O'Neill endowment and enhance services to patients and the community. Leading that campaign was the responsibility of the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation.

Explains Larry Beck, former president of MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, "The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation provides the extra push needed to obtain funding for the capabilities we know are needed, but for which sufficient resources are not available. The Foundation not only secures the continued generosity of those who already know us and understand our special character, it also introduces us to those who do not yet know Good Samaritan, and inspires them to help us move forward."
